Digital Photographer 2011 | Cambridgeshire Lifestyle Photographer

No, no, no, I am not THE Digital Portrait Photographer 2011, but I did get shortlisted from 1,500 in this catergory down to 20, and considering I uploaded last Autumn I know my photography has come on since then, I am pretty chuffed.

The winners will be announced with images from some of shortlist contestants, I will have to buy the magazine just to see if I made it as one of the judges favorites!

This is the image that I entered. This gorgeous boy and his huge brown eyes have won me a couple of awards already, but this image was submitted only to the 2011 Digital Photographer of the Year contest.

I have some exciting news coming to Anna Bowkis Photography in the forseeble future for all 13-16 year olds! Keep an eye on my Face Book fan page for announcement.

October 2011 National Competition Winner | Cambridgeshire Lifetsyle Photographer

 It feels like Winter here in Cambridge today and we woke to frost sprinkled all over the fields. I also woke to the results of the October Competition at The Guild of Photographers.  Once again the standard was very high and no Gold bars were given this month. I am pleased to have been awarded a Strong Silver, just missing Gold, and a Bronze.

A reminder of the Judging:

• Platinum Bar – World Class / Awesome (one has yet to be awarded!)
• Gold Bar – Truly Exceptional (so very rare)
• Silver Bar – Very High Standard (very difficult to achieve)
• Bronze Bar – High Standard (above the norm)
• Commended – Good Professional Standard (a competent image)
• Unclassified – Images that are not of national competition standards

QGPP | Cambridgeshire Lifestyle Photographer

I am so happy to announce that I am now a Qualified Guild Portrait Photographer with The Guild of Photographers.

I was so nervous sending in my 20 images for submission 2 weeks ago, and on Friday whilst at the Dane Sanders Roadshow (thats another blog post on its own!) I received a phone call from Steve, one of the directors to tell me I had passed!

I hope that this helps prospective clients when choosing me as their photographer to know that I have had to prove my technical and business skills to a panel of judges to become Qualified.

Here are a couple of photos that I submitted:

 

I have a couple of sessions available still for October 15th in Bury St Edmunds. Photos will be perfect for uisng for your Christmas Cards or even as a gift for Grandparents, family and friends.

Award winning - me!!! | Cambridgeshire Lifestyle Photographer

I am very passionate about my photography, improving and learning all the time is of paromount importance to me.

Joining The Guild of Photographers was one of the moves towards learning more and taking my photography to the next level.

Every month The Guild hold an Image of the Month competition. You submit images that you wish to be "scored" to achieve awards of different levels.

In the words of The Guild:

"Remember, many images of a 'competant' standard do not achieve a 'Bar'. A Commended shot is basically a 'solid' image to be satisfied with. Obtaining a 'Bar' of any description is a difficult task as you have to satisfy the Panel your image is beyond the 'norm'!!"

I received an email on Monday telling me that the 3 images I submitted achieved a silver and 2 bronzes!!! To say I was ecstatic is an undersatement! My mentor tells me I have to aim for a gold now!!!

Dead Chuffed | Jane Austen Competiton

I am sure you cannot forget the photos I posted here form the Jane Austen Shoot I attended earlier in the month, organized by Melissa Love. I havnt stopped talking about it, LOL. I so enjoyed the day more than you can imagine. The styling, the models, the photographers all made the day memorable and inspirational!

Anyways, Melissa held a competition for all us attendees and we uploaded a favorite photo from the day that we had taken.

This was my submission

The beautiful girl in the photo is Flora Dutton, one of the models on the day. This was my favorite scene, the Garden Tea Party. It was no surprise that I chose to submit from this scene really.

Well the winners were announced yesterday and I am really chuffed to announce that I came 3rd with the talented Tracey Barrow.

First place went to Boo Marshal. Congratulations to all the winners I feel really honured to amongst such fine talent.

I have won a set of vintage actions from Lisa Delvin; what could be more perfcet for me!
